Individual Psychotherapy

Many people come to individual therapy or psychotherapy because they are experiencing emotional pain, but they struggle to clearly identify what's really going on or how to create lasting, meaningful change.  That recognition itself - that something needs to shift - can be the seed for genuine growth.

I see therapy as a collaborative process that evolves alongside you.  As you grow and change during our work together, so does the approach.  Along this journey, we might explore your past, not to dwell there, but to understand how the meaning of those experiences show up in your life today.  A key part of this work can involve practice sitting through emotions with greater tolerance and curiosity = to experience a fuller ranger of feelings that arise without being overwhelmed or reactive.  As you develop the capacity to distinguish between the experience o emotions from the content that stirred them into being, you gain the capacity to observe what you're feeling without being controlled by it, creating space for insight and choice.  Your struggles can often ripple outward, affecting your relationships with partners, family, and others around you.  Understanding how you make meaning of experiences helps us to address them at their root.

A core goal of individual counseling is to help you access parts of yourself that have been hidden or undiscovered - the authentic parts that have been waiting to emerge and be embraced.  when you reconnect with these aspects of yourself, and develop a more accepting relationship with your emotional life, you can live more genuinely and make choices guided by your deepest values rather than old patterns or external expectations.  Whether you are navigating depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, or simply feel stuck, individual psychotherapy offers a dedicated space to explore what's happening beneath the surface and chart a path forward that feels true to who you really are.

For clients who have experienced trauma and seeking therapy to address PTSD, I am a provider trained in a variety of trauma-informed models, including experiential and cognitively based approaches.  One model we can choose to use is Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). CPT is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is endorsed by the National Academy of Medicine to treat PTSD. This is an effective and evidence based treatment model heavily backed by research.  The typical course of treatment lasts typically 12 sessions.
